When Vaxxas, a Brisbane-based biotechnology company, needed to import advanced manufacturing equipment from Switzerland, they turned to International Cargo Express for support. The shipment consisted of two heavy crates loaded onto a flat rack container, requiring careful planning, specialist equipment, and clear communication to ensure safe and timely delivery to their Brisbane facility.
The Challenge
The cargo was classified as out-of-gauge, meaning it could not be transported on a standard sideloader truck. The client also raised a number of important questions: Could the container be unloaded from different sides? What type of forklift or crane would be required? How would weather exposure affect the shipment? And, most importantly, what would be the safest and most practical delivery method for their site?
Our Solution
ICE provided step-by-step guidance at every stage of the process. We explained the container configuration, confirmed the weight of each crate, and recommended suitable unloading equipment such as a heavy-duty forklift or crane.
To handle the out-of-gauge nature of the cargo, we arranged a customised delivery method using two trucks: a Drop Deck trailer truck to transport the container, supported by a Side Loader truck to lift and position it onto the ground.
We worked closely with the client to ensure they had adequate space on site, even suggesting blocking off carparks to allow both vehicles to operate safely. Throughout the process, ICE liaised with overseas agents and transport partners to keep communication seamless and the delivery plan on track.
