Our client is a renowned multinational designer and producer of sustainable consumer packaging and a Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Company™.

They faced a significant logistical task: to move a large carton packer unit, vital to their operations, from Leeds, UK, to Sydney, Australia.

The shipment was a carton packer machinery, comprised of two units weighing over 2,5 tonnes and 23m³ in total:

  • Piece No 1 (main packer): Length 4150mm, Width 1650mm, Height 2500mm, Weight 1700Kg
  • Piece No 2 (roller bed): Length 2080mm, Width 1600mm, Height 870mm, Weight 300Kg

The Challenge

An initial assessment suggested the main packer’s height would prevent it from fitting into a standard container, requiring a more expensive 40-foot open-top solution. In addition, the import of used machinery required adherence to Australia’s strict biosecurity measures.

Our Solution

ICE engaged with the client early to fully assess cargo details, dimensions, and import requirements. We:

  • Conducted comprehensive planning, quoting both Open Top and High Cube container options
  • Provided Australian biosecurity compliance advice to ensure machinery met strict cleanliness standards
  • Engaged our trusted UK partner to execute an end-to-end operational plan:
    • Collection from Leeds via curtain-sided truck
    • Cleaning and preparation of cargo for export
    • Provision of ISPM15-compliant timber bases and vacuum foil bags
    • Securing units, vacuum sealing, and packaging
    • Successfully trying and reducing cargo height to fit into a standard 40’ High Cube container (avoiding more expensive Open Top option and providing cost savings)
  • Managed full export formalities and international sea freight to Sydney

The shipment arrived in Sydney fully compliant with biosecurity regulations, without any delays. By optimising the packaging solution, we achieved significant cost savings for the client. The seamless coordination between ICE, the client, and our UK partners ensured a smooth and timely delivery, successfully meeting Australia’s stringent import regulations and exceeding client expectations.

  • Significant Cost Savings by optimising packing and container options
