Freight Forwarding & Logistics FAQ
What is the process for initiating a project shipment?
Simply give us a call and ask to speak to one of our team in project shipping. From here we will initiate a consultation with you to understand the full scope of your project. You will be asked to provide us with information regarding the size and weight of your cargo and any requirements at origin or destination. We may also request pictures or diagrams of your cargo if necessary. Following the consultation process, we will provide you with a full quote based on the scope of work stipulated and an overview of our project plan.
You can connect with Marcus, one of ICE’s project freight forwarding consultants here or call him directly on +61 (3) 8374 8208.
What sets ICE apart from other forwarders?
Flexibility and customer service. Our experienced operators/consultants get to know your business so you receive a truly bespoke service when working with ICE.
As independent forwarders, we have the flexibility of choosing the best shipping option for your cargo through our vetted network of overseas agents. We build the operation around your requirements to the smallest detail.
We offer premium service and flexibility, combined.
How are rates calculated?
It is critical to understand the full scope of the program when developing any costs. Stakeholder consultation is an important aspect of the process. Factors such as cranage, storage, transport, surveying services, sea or air faring legs and local handling requirements will influence the final rate.
Once a scope is clear, costs are usually calculated based on revenue tonnes.
Are there any extra costs associated with oversized cargo?
Whilst there are more charges associated with project shipping, working with an experienced freight forwarder will allow you to have visibility of these costs in advance of booking.
Is it easy to book a service for OOG into Australia?
There is substantial demand for out of gauge shipping into Australia. However, our extensive network of agents, local carriers and our experienced project team, will allow for a smooth booking process.
What are the key considerations for road transport?
Unpacking out-of-gauge cargo can require crane lifts and specialised trailers. We can arrange special equipment hire to load and unload your cargo, both at the port and on-site.
The Australian Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) sets out the maximum height and weights allowed on our roads which differ in each state.
As a general rule, the maximum weight allowed on Australian roads is 42.5 tonnes in a common 6 axel semi-trailer delivery. The maximum height is 4.6 metres on approved roads. At all times, the loads must be made secure and be distributed evenly across the trailer so weight is evenly spread across truck axels.
Our professional forwarding project manager can plan and coordinate all your transport requirements.
Who will project manage my cargo?
ICE has experienced in-house Project Managers who will coordinate your project cargo end to end. If required, you can meet your Manager prior to shipping to discuss any of your concerns.
You can connect with Marcus, one of ICE’s project freight forwarding consultants here or call him directly on +61 (3) 8374 8208.
